Where To Start
There are many resources out there to help you find that perfect baby name. You can find baby names both in books and online. You can ask people you know or you could even go around and find things you like and name your child based off those ideas. It's best to start in the early months and make a list. Keep adding to your list and then when it's time start narrowing it down. You can always use some of your left over choices to name your next child or you can use them for your new baby's middle name.
Keeping It To Yourself
Some people choose to tell everyone their name choice. However, it's perfectly acceptable to keep the name to yourself. If you choose to keep the name to yourself and someone asks if you named the baby just say, "We have a name but were not sharing it at this time." Don't feel bad. It's YOUR choice to share the name or not.
Dealing With People Who Don't Like Your Baby's Name
There are some people out there who don't want their child to enter preschool only to realize there are 4 other Ashley's in their class. If you chose an unusual name or a common name with an odd spelling there are going to be people who think you're plain crazy. When you encounter some of these people just say to them, "We chose this name because we like it and we want our child to have a special name."Â Remember it's your child and you don't have to deal with people who think you've gone off the deep end. Odd names are nice because not a lot of people have that name so it makes your baby more of an individual and very special.
